So ... here is an update:
1st - Nacho's driver does not work at all for my 10.04 64bit box ... it
is hit and miss on the compile, but I lose my wlan0 interface, it's
jsut gone !!
here is the e-mail I got from Realtek about their support for 64bit

The RTL8187B Linux driver just only support 32bit os.
The GREAT NEWS is that there is a Brasilian developer in the kernel-
wireless list that seems to have fixed the problem:
