I really don't know why, but I have my Ubuntu the same, I only have
installed all updates by synaptic and the related bug back.

"Every time I use my laptop with Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx, it simply
overheat and suddenly shuts down/off. This generally happens after 30
min of use. All packages are updated. I have not installed the ATI
drivers, so I'm using default."
