I have the same problem under Lynx, although the hotkeys do work.
Toshutils and toshset do not work, because toshiba support is not in the
kernel.
$ sudo toshset:
required kernel toshiba support not enabled.
$ sudo modprobe toshiba
FATAL: Module toshiba not found.
$ sudo modprobe toshiba_acpi
FATAL: Error inserting toshiba_acpi (/lib/modules/2.6.32-22-generic/kernel/drivers/platform/x86/toshiba_acpi.ko): No such device
The toshiba_acpi kernel module exists (but the module does not load),
and the toshiba module simply is not installed.
system: 2.6.32-22-generic #33-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 28 13:27:30 UTC 2010
i686 GNU/Linux
kernel config file shows:
# CONFIG_TOSHIBA is not set
CONFIG_YENTA_TOSHIBA=y
CONFIG_TOSHIBA_FIR=m
CONFIG_ACPI_TOSHIBA=m
PLEASE just add the CONFIG_TOSHIBA option in new kernel builds!!!
