Updated to 10.04 LTS. I do not get the dirty loop, but I DO still get the hpet_next_event kernel loop. Does not seem to affect much.
 Going to run the command, and then try the new kernel.

** Description changed:

   I get a kernel loop on the hper_next_event. In addition, I get dirty
  pages loops in random applications.

  I attempted to install differed distro's/kernels on this laptop. (dell
  1747). Now, for every one (kernel 2.6.26, 2.6.32) (debian lenny,sid;
  ubuntu stable,unstable) it doesn't seem to affect anything yet, but I
  have not yet stressed this machine to any limits on linux. I know it
  works flawlessly on win7_64.
