[Bug 578849] [NEW] Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0, 0)

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Clean install of Ubuntu 10.04 from CD created on May 10, 2010.

Everything worked fine after initial install. Installed updates without
any problems. Approximately 45 minutes after install the screen when
black then came back up immediately. Now get :

[ #.######] Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on
unknown-block(0,0)

where #.###### is a different number each time I attempt to boot.

         Status: New
