I just tried linux-alsa-driver-modules-$(uname -r) from ppa with lucid
problem still persists with all recent updates. Digital output is
showing under aplay -l  but you can get any output switching in sound
preferences to any of the digital outputs.

card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 0: CONEXANT Analog [CONEXANT Analog]

  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 1: Conexant Digital [Conexant Digital]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

I do notice that subdevices for the digital is now 1/1 instead of 0/1
before. I will try later and see if anything has changed maybe an update
snuck in with in the last few hours.
