** Description changed:
I am using Ubuntu 10.4 (but the problem probably exists since 7.10 at
least). I use a broadband modem to connect to the Internet, to which my
computer is connected via an ethernet (RJ45) cable.
Steps to reproduce :
1. Unplug ethernet cable from computer ;
2. Turn computer on ;
3. Boot ubuntu (2.6.32-21-generic) with acpi support enabled (ie. not explicitly disabled) ;
4. When logged in, plug ethernet cable into computer.
Result : the network-manager icon starts animating (to indicate
activity), and the computer hangs after less than 1 second ; there is no
response to any stimulus (except hard poweroff).
This problem also arises if I prevent Gnome, its network manager and GDM
to automatically launch and start the network manually.
- However, this problem does not arise if Ubuntu is booted with the
- options "acpi=off noacpi" added to the boot command.
+ However, this problem does not arise if Ubuntu is booted with the options "acpi=off noacpi" added to the boot command.
