[Bug 576107] [NEW] dist-upgrade bricked system

Public bug reported:

dist-upgrade from 9.10 to 10.04 makes systems unusable (bricks).

No consoles, no x-window, no display at boot, no screen at rescue.

Upgrade from alt CD, no online update produced unchangeable smaller
resolution and no window decorator.

Subsequent update on-line bricked system.

This report being made from clean 10.04 install an same system.  Bricked
system zipped and saved if anyone wnats to see something.
