[Bug 546802] [NEW] ubuntu-10.04-beta1-desktop-i386 liveCD hangs during boot

Public bug reported:

Unable to complete boot from ubuntu-10.04-beta1-desktop-i386 liveCD

System is AMD Athlon XP2500+ with 512M memory
Gforce4 MX440 AGP8X

Allowing it to boot from the CD the display sequence is:
low-res ubuntu logo
blank screen with cursor top left
hi-res screen, ubuntu logo, activity indicator red/white dots

Then the screen displays coloured horizontal lines as shown in the
attached image and the PC has hung, requiring a hard reset.


If on boot I use F6 to select the 'nomodeset' option the boot completes.
