In my case, I use VMWare with a WinXP session to run proprietary
software for work doing medical transcription. VMWare will allow me to
forward USB devices to the virtual machine on the /proc/bus/usb tree,
which works fine in 2.6.31-17 and below. However, who is it that decided
we didn't need this functionality any longer? I'm stuck waiting for
VMWare to get off their kiesters and update VMWare Server. I'd like to
continue to use this setup while keeping to the improvements made in the
newer kernel series. I find that Ubuntu is slipping away from my needs
in this area. I'll be happy to reformat and reload a different
distribution if Ubuntu can't support me in this way and I can certainly
recommend the same to my friends. Downgrading to 31-17 is a pretty poor
fix for this situation.
