I spoke too soon.
Thanks to the online docu I tried again using a CD instead of a DVD and
booting worked.

The b/g wlan was detected with lucid (but I couldn't handshake - may have
been my mistake adding key).
The n wlan was *not* detected with lucid (but it was before and after with
heron).
didn't check speeds.

Not sure if that counts as a test result or not,
