I really need a dmesg log showing the output when the device is plugged
in twice, so we can see what is output on the second plugging.

As for statically compiling the modules in, we'll need to figure out why
that fixes things. We won't be able to statically compile them into
Lucid at this point even if we wanted to, but seeing that compiling USB
in fixes things does help us debug.
