You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have asked this question in Launchpad, but I did not receive an
answer, so I will file a bug report.

I have a Panasonic VDR-D100 camcorder which records video clips into
mini-dvd disk in VR format. When I insert the mini-dvd disk into my
laptop booted into Vista or XP SP3 partition, it reads the content of
the mini-dvd disk. However, when I insert this mini-dvd disk into the
very same laptop that is booted into ubuntu jaunty partition (with
latest update), ubuntu thinks the disk is blank. I tried other machines
with ubuntu of various version (8.04, 8.10), I got the same result:
ubuntu thinks the dvd is blank. But all the Vista machines read the disk
just fine.

I also have XP SP3 as guest OS inside VirtualBox with ubuntu as the host
OS. If I can manage to have XP SP3 guest OS to "connect" to the dvd
drive before ubuntu gets to it, both XP SP3 running as guest OS inside
VirtualBox 2.1 and the ubuntu host OS can read the disk content. But
most of the time, ubuntu seems to "grab" the dvd drive first and both XP
and ubuntu cannot read the disk content. ubuntu reports a blank disk, XP
reports disk is corrupted.

I have installed medibuntu in Jaunty. This problem is shown on both 64
and 32 ubuntu OS.

The version of the OS is jaunty AMD64 development branch.

I searched the web to see if anyone has reported this issue, but without
much luck. I am wondering if this is an overlooked area by Linux
community or there are some copy right restriction on mini-dvd disk that
Linux cannot cover?

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Incomplete
