You have been subscribed to a public bug:
I tried to install Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala on my 16 Gb Verbatim SSD Card (With liveCD card is working OK).
After copying files, Ubuntu also created initrd.
But to be able to work with my SSD, kernel module "phison" must be included into initrd (or into kernel). E.g., this module is loaded when I use the SSD with Ubuntu LiveCD or Ubuntu 9.10, installed on my primary HDD.
But this module was not included into initrd of the fresh install, and so Ubuntu kernel WAS UNABLE TO DETECT MY SSD with root filesystem.
P.S. Also I have couple of other errors with SSD (but I'm not sure if it's bug of Ubuntu):
