OK i have had this problem since i first installed 9.10 in November
2009. I have since had about 6 or 7 kernel updates and the problem has
persisted.,

Currently i have 2.6.32-16-386 #24-Ubuntu SMP Sat Mar 6 15:33:03 UTC
2010 i686 GNU/Linux

Reboot, shutdown, suspend and hibernate all fail, every time.

I see this if i issue a "shutdown" from maintenance mode

init: rsyslog-kmsg main process (996) Killed by TERM signal
init: hal main process (1034) terminated with status 1
init: avahi-daemon main process (1042)n terminated with status 255
*stopping TiMidity++ Alsa midi emulation...
modemmanager: caught signal 15, shutting down...
init: disconnecting from system bus...
_

And then i just get a blinking cursor top left until i i power if off
with the button - my hard drive makes a nasty clicking noise when i do
this so i'm not happy with that.

This really is a serious problem and widespread too.

Any idea's anyone before i smash this netbook to pieces in a frustrated
rage or it melts and catches fire in my bag as it cooks until the
battery runs out :)
