Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.31-19-generic
Short story: with the current Karmic amd64 kernel package, compiling
mplayer on a mounted CIFS share leads to an invalid header file being
generated (data corruption?). With the current Lucid amd64 kernel
package, it works.

This problem also occurs when:
- using the same Ubuntu environment on a different PC
- using any other current (in terms of weeks) version of mplayer
- using mplayer tarballs
- checking out mplayer on the server and only running configure and make on the client
- using a different version of Samba on the server
This problem does not occur (i.e. the same version of mplayer compiles fine) when running the above steps except:
- compiling it on the local disk, e.g., in /tmp
- compiling it on an NFS instead of a CIFS share
- compiling it under Jaunty or Lucid
- compiling it under Karmic with the current Lucid kernel package
There is no dmesg or syslog data on this problem.
Could this be caused by silent data corruption in the current Karmic
CIFS kernel code?
