I have installed Karmic instead of the Lucid alpha-3 on this laptop, but
will check the Lucid beta-1 live CD release when it appears.

There has been one minor improvement with this bug - the cloudy image
which obscures boot messages while the system was booting disappeared
with todays Lucid update.
