Public bug reported:

booting Lenovo SL-12 with mem=nopentium boot option improves boot
performance. Without this option the OS needs a keypress like SHIFT to
make progress, I have also noticed that mouse movements also helps. I am
attaching a series of boot charts that I created with and without this
option.

All EVEN numbered boot charts are with mem=nopentium

All ODD numbered boot charts are without this option.

You will notice that with the option enabled the boot looks pretty nice,
but without it, there is a lot more IO wait and CPU activity going on.
