Lately, Ubunto doesn't power down from the menu-item.
The countdown window comes up, and then goes away when the count reaches 0 or I click on "shutdown",
but it doesn't shut down.
If I try to do it again, when it reaches 0 or I click on "shutdown", the window remains, but the count hangs, and no shutdown.
At any time after the initial attempt, if I try to bring up a terminal to run shutdown, it thinks a bit, but doesn't bring up the terminal.
I must ctrl-alt-F2 to bring up a login terminal, then I can "sudo shutdown -P now" then it shuts down.
I will attach all files that https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingACPI suggests, except /var/log/kern.log.0
I have never hibernated/suspended before - in searching for hibernate, it sounded too iffy. I did suspend, and the screen faded out - that seemed to be all. I moved the mouse, and then shortly after, a password window appeared, I entered my password and all was restored. I don't know if suspend worked or not, but there was no /var/log/kern.log.0 file to attach.
I have Karmic 9.10. If things have improved, and it is thought that hibernate is certain to work, and you feel it necessary for me to do it, then let me know and I'll try. But, I really do not want to create a big problem, when shutting down "manually" is really not so bad.

Whether related or not, I don't know, but today, for some reason, Ubuntu asked me to log in when I booted - normally, it does not do so (never before, except when I ctrl-alt-F2).
There may be only one file attached, as I do not see how to do more - I
can of course add more comments and therby have the opportunity to add
more files... We'll see...
