I rebooted a few times a while ago, within 30 minutes of each other,
then 8 hours later without any problems.

Here's my uprecords so far:

Have you tried using apt-get dist-upgrade instead of aptitude safe-
upgrade? I don't know if there is any real difference between the two.
Judging from the manual pages, it seems like apt-get dist-upgrade does
the same thing as aptitude full-upgrade, but I'm not 100% sure of that.
