I realized that the multitouch xorg-edgers ppa includes a version of
xserver-xorg-input-evdev that probably would cause this to occur. The
package is old and the changes will not be brought forward in that form,
so I just deleted it from the PPA altogether.

Please try downgrading to the Ubuntu 10.04 LTS version of xserver-xorg-
input-evdev to see if it resolves your issue.
