[Bug 596344] [NEW] Belkin USB to ethernet adapter (F5D5055) not working

Public bug reported:

This device was working with 10.04 until I ran a generic package update today. After a restart (due to a power failure) I does not work any longer.
A possibly interesting fact to observe is that the traffic lights on the connected switch do show activity, but on the TCP/IP level no traffic is going through. In consequence, the interface cannot acquire an address when set to DHCP, neither can it serve IP addresses to other computers (when running a DHCP server with the interface on a static address).
Unfortunately this turns my home network into a one-horse-show. Also unfortunately I failed to make a note of which exact version of the kernel I was running before the upgrade. The last upgrade before this was about 4-6 weeks ago.
