I just tried with a fresh installation of Squeeze-amd64, kernel 2.6.32-5
on same machine:

Message is precisely the same as with Lucid:
"nForce2_smbus 0000:00:01.1: Error probing SMB2." 

Remark:
graphics deriver does not matter on Lucid, I tried "nouveau" and NVIDIA 173* and NVIDIA latest - the same.
