I installed the 2.6.31-02063112-generic kernel from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.31.12/ and the errors
are gone!

So the regression was introduced after that kernel. What/How else can I
test to isolate this bug?
