[Bug 592441] [NEW] Meerkat A1 doesn't boot into UNR desktop

Public bug reported:

After upgrading (partially due to apt errors) to today's UNR MeerkatA1,
I no longer get a desktop. I did before the upgrade. When I installed
the initial version, I converted to a plain gray bkgrd and enabled ctl-
alt-bksp (luckily :)

When I boot up, I get a gray screen with squares that change size and
brightness. Restarting X gives me a defective UNR screen. Apps open in
windows with no status bar and can't be minimized.

I've tar'ed up Meerkat's /var/log. If apport attached anything, ignore
those files - I had to go back to my production Lucid install to submit
this. (I test by doing full installs to SD cards.)

System is eeePC 1005HA, 2GB RAM.
