OK, addendum: suspend/resume fails with 2.6.32-21-generic as well. I was
confused by the fact that suspend/resume *does* work if you try it from
the initial gdm login screen: once you've logged in once, it will always
fail thereafter (whether you're logged in or not). I was just rebooting
into the older kernel & trying it, not actually logging myself in.

I've tried the 2.6.34 kernel from the ubuntu kernel ppa & the Karmic
kernel as well & they all fail. Now, suspend/resume definitely used to
work on this laptop. I'll try the earlier kernels & see if any of them
work.
