Public bug reported:

When I plug in a Novation X-Station (a usb soundcard) and then try to
perform any other action, the whole system freezes. I cannot switch to
the terminal and SysRQ keys also don't work.

If I leave htop open in a terminal and then plug in the device, I can
see that modprobe launches and hits 100% on one cpu.

I can move the mouse, but if I attempt any action, then the system
freezes hard.

I use, and have used for years, this same device on a Jaunty laptop
without any difficulties. This is a new issue on Lucid, albeit on a
different laptop. It is currently working on 2.6.28-19-generic
