[Bug 610629] [NEW] Since 10.04 64bit version SATA driver has strange effects on BIOS when Blu-Ray drive connected

Public bug reported:

Mainboard is ASUS M4A78 Pro with 780G chipset - see lspci for details.

Since 10.04 64-bit version hangs at boot up for about 30s when Blu-Ray drive LG BH08LS20 is connected at SATA port.
Then startup proceeds with no errors but LG drive is not recognized , even it is not possible to open the drive's tray
nor the drive listed by 'lspci'.

If I trigger a cold reset during the above mentioned 30s the startup of BIOS becomes very, very slow and the LG drive (still connected!)
is not recognized even by BIOS ! In this case I have to switch off the power , then BIOS works fine again.

The problem does not occur at Ubuntu 10.04 32bit LiveCD , here the LG BH08LS20 works fine (sata port 4).
No problems with older 09.10 , too. A second connected SATA DVD resp. 3 other hard drives work always fine !

Created on same machine but with 10.04 32bitLiveCD:
