Public bug reported:

My laptop model is a TOSHIBA SATELLITE PRO P100 PSPA4E
I have tried using versions from Hardy Heron onwards, and the problem remains identical.
I have logged a new bug for this, as none of the others fit exactly.

The problem is as follows:

When I turn on the laptop, I can hear and feel that the fan is working
fine (just like it did under Win XP, so I know it's not physically
broken or full of dust). However, as soon as Lucid Lynx starts to load,
the fan stops. It then stays off and the laptop becomes very, very hot.

I have tried "this works for me" fixes that seem to have done something
for others models of laptop (like suspending and resuming, or changing
the BIOS fan setting from SILENT to PERFORMANCE and back again) but to
no avail.

I thought if I logged a bug report myself, I could then take
responsibility for providing any and all information you might need from
me to try and help you help me.

I am not very technical, but will follow any instructions you give me to
the letter.

Thank you.
David
