[Bug 608109] [NEW] plymouth failing to go to gdm, garbled screen during boot

Public bug reported:

Sometimes when I boot I see the ubuntu-splash-screen being garbled and
the system just doesn't continue to boot into gdm (waited up to 5
minutes). I can switch to a vt (Ctrl-Alt-F1) login as normal user an
trigger a reboot doing "sudo shutdown -r now". That usually allows me to
get the system boot correctly again. Looking at syslog and dmesg I find
this...
