Good Morning Mario,
Before you get too deep into debugging my older system;
I have ordered all new hardware to build a Mythbuntu Media System.
This computer should be running Sunday, after which I will try the install
again.

OK, what settings are you picking in the F6 menu to fix it?  Nomodeset ? Yes
I selected Nomodeset.
Maybe a better way for us newbies would be to have a main menu selection of 
Safe Graphics" like the older versions. (Brian)
 
Also, can you please help provide the details of your hardware?  You
should be able to provide them to this bug by running this command: I will
get this info once I get home from work. I will try tonight. (Brian)

Bug description:
Clean HD Install of 10.04 I have gotten past the black screen but after the
splash screen with status bar the screen flashes several times on text only
screens and stops at a command prompt. Just to make sure the computer is OK
I installed an older version of Ubuntu (7.1) which installed and runs great.
