[Bug 606376] [NEW] Computer freezes and screen does not turn back on after closing and opening laptop lid

This started happening with Maverick - I had no problem with Lucid.

I'm using an Lenovo ThinkPad T61 with Intel GM965 graphics chip. When I
close the lid with the power connected, gnome-power-manager is
configured to blank the screen, and that works well, but when I open the
lid again after some time has passed (I haven't been able to reproduce
this with just close the lid and open it immediately - some time has to
pass) then the screen turns back on, I can see that the screen is
powered on but the picture is black with nothing on - not even a mouse
cursor.

At this point I can't do anything - CTRL+ALT+Fx doesn't move to a
different terminal and there is no way to communicate with the computer
through the terminal. I have to power cycle the computer.
