Thanks for the summary Eric, I would like to add that the current kernel
in lucid-proposed - with the patch that uses ata_generic supporting DMA
*is* actually merged into the upstream kernel.

That patch is stable, and works - therefore fixing this bug.  I would be
surprised if an eventual fix in sata_nv and SRU'd to Lucid.
