Went ahead and (up)graded my kernel from v2.6.35-rc1 to v2.6.32-23 and
patched as described in

Works now, though another bug is present in this kernel too (Intel
i3/i5/i7 fails to resume from suspend).

So now I am going to try to apply two patches, at some point.
