Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64bits gives a black & white screen with vertical stripes, like blinders,
and doesn't install on my HP Pavillion DV6000 laptop, AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-62 2.1GHz, Nvidia 6150Go.

I've been using 8.04, 8.10 and 9.04 all 32bits on the same laptop with no problems since 2008, it all
started when updating online to 9.10 32bits, a black and white stripes screen appeared and disappeared during
online update process some times but then it did work until reboot when accused problems on the HD disk.
I had to use fsck manual to fix it and problem was gone with all working quite fine.

Yesterday I tried a clean install with the new 10.04 LTS 64bits with kernel 2.6.32.21,
downloaded last week form USA servers, to be able to use all the 4 GB of RAM of my laptop.
I tried installation from a USB boot pendrive and also from a CD.
It didn't install at all freezing the screen with the stripes motive
right after the ubuntu logo with purple background and little dots stopped changing from white to all orange.
That's right before the window with the two options and language choice should appear.
The computer just froze on the stripes screen and nothing else happened.

Tried that 4 times with same results, from USB pen drive boot install
and CD.

I then installed the Ubuntu Remix 10.04 for netbooks and it did work perfectly,
both for the trial and full HD installation, but it's 32 bits.

My guess is that it could be related to 64 bit video driver ?

Weird thing is that I did install 10.04 64bits, from the same CD, on a
Compaq Presario V3000, Turion 64 X2 1.6GHz, with the very same Nvidia
6150 Go video board and it did work perfectly well.

If somebody can help me with that I would greatly appreciate it, it would be a shame to install Windows 7 64bits
just to access all the RAM.

I hope Canonical can fix this ? Or that is a kernel problem ?

Thanks,

Ed
