Same problem here, Sony VAIO laptop with Intel Core II Duo, NVIDIA
graphics (so this isn't Intel graphics related).
I'm lucky to get 45 minutes battery life, compared to 3 hours under
Windows.
Top causes for wakeups:
21.5% ( 63.2) <kernel IPI> : Rescheduling interrupts
21.0% ( 61.7) <kernel core> : hrtimer_start_range_ns (tick_sched_timer)
20.6% ( 60.6) <interrupt> : nvidia
10.2% ( 30.1) firefox : hrtimer_start_range_ns (hrtimer_wakeup)
5.8% ( 17.1) <interrupt> : extra timer interrupt
4.3% ( 12.7) <interrupt> : ehci_hcd:usb2, uhci_hcd:usb5
4.3% ( 12.7) USB device 5-2 : Optical Mouse ( KYE )
(This was taken when running under mains power. Under battery power it
is similar except nvidia drops off the list, so I doubt this is graphics
card related at all).
uname -a
Linux hoss 2.6.31-18-generic #55-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 8 14:55:26 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux
This is a serious problem. Battery life of 1/4 that under Windows is not
acceptable.
