I got the exact same error as the OP, only during boot, preventing to
boot any further.

[ 6.xxxxxx] [drm:i915_driver_irq_handler] *ERROR* EIR stuck: 0x00000010, masking
[ 6.xxxxxx] render error detected, EIR: 0x00000010
[ 6.xxxxxx] page table error
[ 6.xxxxxx] PGTBL_ER: 0x00000100

Turned out to be a hardware clock related problem, clock had reset
itself to it's initial settings (2002), setting the clock in BIOS to the
right time again fixed this problem.
