Same issue here; everything worked fine until this afternoon; after
doing some things in Vista (as I visited a site with silverlight) I
tried to reboot, but the system came up with:

kernel panic - not syncing VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown-
block(0,0)

Issue occurs using ubuntu 2.6.32-24, in generic and recovery mode
In 2.6.32-21, system starts up as it's supposed to do.

If logging is required, feel free to ask (please elaborate a bit on
what's required, as it is a while ago I debugging and logging in linux)

Regards
