Same problem on an Asus K60IJ laptop.  There are numerous posts about
this and many laptops affected by it.  Windows had the same problem but
it was fixed there by using updated Chacony drivers.  There is a fix
described in
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8925031#post8925031, but that's
only a stopgap.  A kernel repair is really needed.
