Public bug reported:
Seeing unsatisfying battery usage, on an AMD nile platform notebook.
using powertop, I see that whenever the touchpad is used, there are
hundreds of wakeups per second. to estimate worst case impact, I play
with the touchpad continuously for ten seconds to see a refresh.
disabling the touchpad and repeating using an ordinary mouse results in
a drop in power consumption of on the order of a 1 watt. (went from
16.5 to 16.8 down to under 16)
with touchpad active:

This is using mouse extensively. the touchpad seems to remain active for long periods when it should be idle.
noticed this patch: http://www.lesswatts.org/projects/powertop/known.php#appletouch
suspect something similar is necessary for psmouse driver.
