Public bug reported:
My laptop is a Dell E6510 with an nVidia NVS 3100M graphics card. I have
experienced the following problems:
a) The laptop panel remains black with the nouveau driver.
b) If I plug in an external monitor in the docking station before booting, the nouveau driver displays everything correctly on the external monitor.
c) Using the nvidia driver, I can use both the external or the internal screen depending on whether the external screen was plugged in before booting.
d) However, whenever I try to switch between the external and/or internal screen while the system is running (using nvidia-settings or hotkeys), the kernel panics (flashing lights on keyboard).
e) This happens also whenever I turn off the external monitor so that the laptop wants to switch to the internal screen.
