Here is a diff file between the working .32 and the defective .35 configuration
my 3 suspects are
a) - cpu support
b) - io
c) - network

a) I could not find and changes in cpu support
so my xeon em64t should be ok with amd64 arch
unless
< CONFIG_X86_L1_CACHE_BYTES=64
< CONFIG_X86_INTERNODE_CACHE_BYTES=64
---
> CONFIG_X86_INTERNODE_CACHE_SHIFT=7

b)
removal of iosched
< CONFIG_IOSCHED_AS=y
setting of interrupt remap
> CONFIG_INTR_REMAP=y

c)
removal of packet mmap
< CONFIG_PACKET_MMAP=y
