I have had lots of problem with freezes of my laptop. This bug report
addresses freezes when changing the brightness via the fn buttons.

This is a summary of how I reproduce the problem
Start the computer
Press fn+f7 or fn+f8 [brightness down, brightness up]
Computer freezes
Only way to continue is a hard reset

I am using a HP Compaq Presario CQ61 402E0
I am not using the ATI restricted module although I have an ATI card

Here is a summary of all the fn buttons:

*The backlight is alot lower after revival
