I installed the UNR from the daily karmic repo just under a week ago
(worked great, other than the odd niggle here and there) onto my toshiba
nb205.
Approx 1 hour ago performed an apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade.
After a reboot, the system found no restore image, so proceeded with
normal boot. So far so good. Then it just hung. An occasional flicker
from the HDD light shows activity, but we are talking one flash per 20
seconds minimal.
Then i noticed something. If i move my finger on the touchpad, the HDD
light flickers... so i keep moving it and suddenly the system is booting
normally. If i stop movement on the touchpad, the system boot pretty
much hangs where it is. I try this a few more times to confirm its not
just me, over several boots - still behaving the same now.
I tried the same using keyboard input, this also brought normal boot
(albeit with all the introduced echoed chars and whitespace). As soon as
i stopped input, the system appeared to hang. However, its not a hang,
its just booting very slowly as confirmed by leaving it on its own for a
while.
Once X boots, the touchpad is inoperative, however keyboard works fine,
as does dropping to shell
Im no kernel level or driver level coder, im not sure if this is kernel
related, mouse/keyboard driver related, hardware related or something i
cant fathom but what. Therefore I dont know what category to file this
under other then "ubuntu".. sorry :( Let me know whatever debug
information I can provide or anything i can do to help the issue.
Regards
S
