Sorry if I'm being dense, but where do I find linux-backports-modules-
wwan-lucid[-generic]?

I have uncommented the backports from /etc/apt/sources.list, re-run apt-
get update, but still can't find it. Do I have to get it from a private
PPA?

This would be easier than recompiling modules every time a patched
kernel comes out...
