You have been subscribed to a public bug:
If I suspend my Dell D620 laptop (Intel video chipset), plug it into the
port replicator, and resume, Ubuntu 8.10 doesn't detect my desktop
monitor (Dell 2100FP). It keeps using my laptop monitor, even though
the lid is closed. What's worse is that the monitor's native resolution
of 1600x1200 isn't displayed in the Screen Resolution app. If I use
Screen Resolution to switch to the desktop monitor, it mangles my
xorg.conf to the point where 1600x1200 is not available even after a
reboot. I have to manually revert to the previous version to regain
access to 1600x1200.
The only workaround I've found is to shut down/restart whenever moving
the laptop to/from the port replicator, which is a pretty big annoyance.
System overview:
Dell D620
Ubuntu 8.10
Dell port replicator
Dell 2100FP monitor
