Following the instructions of this blog post I could enable the
brightness keys in a Samsung Q320 and a R430 (R528 may be a similar
case):

Basically, you have to edit your /etc/rc.local file and add these lines
before the "exit 0" line:

echo 130-132,134,136,137,179,247,249 \
    > /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio0/force_release

setkeycodes e008 225 e009 224

Then reboot, then Xorg will recognize the keys and you can use your
favorite tool to manage screen brightness.
