I have this problem with Lucid: uname -a
Linux Ubuntu-Bernard 2.6.32-24-generic #39-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jul 28 06:07:29 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux

Blank disc is reported to have no empty space (Bug #602862) => Brasero
can't burn blank media. Note that Nautilus also reports no space
available. K3b works fine!
