Reopening this bug. It seems I didn't test very thoroughly on Maverick, or maybe there is a regression, but currently duplex audio on my headset almost never works. Curiously, it sometimes does, but I have not been able to find a reproducible sequence of steps that make it work or stop working. I tried quiting/restarting skype, killing pulseaudio, disconnecting/reconnecting the headset through the bluetooh applet, turning it off/on... it justs seems to work some times, but most of the time it doesn't. There is just no audio coming out of the headset in duplex mode, although it seems the headset is being "activated" when an application tries to send audio to it (I can hear a faint hum when it activates).
Switching to A2DP on the fly while there is audio playing works fine. Switching back to duplex, the sound disappears. I tried with several applications (skype, video player, firefox), the result is the same.
Note that it seems it can work only once per boot: if it works at some point, stopping audio output and resuming it later seem to always trigger the problem, until the next reboot. Also note that it does not systematically work immediately upon reboot, although it often does: it might start working after some time. But if it worked once, it won't work again later.
I haven't seen any relevant message in syslog, but I don't know if it's the correct place to look at.
