Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: initramfs-tools
On Hardy 8.04
I'm trying to update my linux-image to linux-image-2.6.24-28-generic.
"dpkg configure -a" crashes when I attempt to do so, with the following error:
Setting up linux-image-2.6.24-28-generic (2.6.24-28.73) ...
Running depmod.
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-2.6.24-28-generic

PANIC: Circular dependancy. Exiting.
additionally, instead of dropping me to any rescue shell, it just hangs
there, and my keyboard no longer works until I reboot.
One interesting thing: there does already exist in /boot the files:
initrd.img-2.6.24-28-generic
initrd.img-2.6.24-28-generic.bak
initrd.img-2.6.24-28-generic.dpkg-bak
initrd.img-2.6.24-28-generic.new
for some reason. They appear to be bootable, but I still can't update
the rest of my system, because dpkg is stuck on linux-
image-2.6.24-28-generic
** Affects: initramfs-tools (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
